  1. The Referees Appointment Service (“The Service”) is provided by The Middlesex Basketball League (“The League”).
  2. Under the provisions of The Service, The League will provide at least ONE referee for each game booked by the Club, University, College or School.
  3. The League will however, endeavour to source TWO referees, where possible, on each and every occasion.
  4. Please note that Basketball England , the governing body of basketball in England, have advised all their referees that they may only officiate in games where both teams have been duly affiliated and registered with Basketball England via their local agents, in this case The League.
  5. When completing The Service form, you will be asked to provide proof of your Basketball England affiliation number. If you do not have this you will be billed accordingly (£50).
  6. A minimum of 7 days notice should be given of a specific match (giving the date, day, jump ball time and category of game), by e-mail.
  7. ALL fixtures MUST be re-confirmed at least 7 days in advance via email in order to guarantee at least one referee. Re-confirmations not received in this timescale will mean that the fixture will be put further down the appointments list for the day, thereby possibly jeopardising any officials being available to officiate at all. In this case, The League will not be held liable for the non-provision of officials.
  8. When emailing your INITIAL fixture list for the season, please submit them as an MS Excel file, with column headings as follows
    1. Leave Blank
    2. Date (dd/mm/yyyy)
    3. Jump Ball (xx:xx e.g. 14:00 = 2pm)
    4. Finish (xx:xx e.g. 15:45 = 3.45pm)
    5. Home (Home team name)
    6. Venue (Name only, not address! e.g. Brunel, ACS Hillingdon etc.)
    7. Category (BUSA, SESSA, LISBA, ESBBA, EBL, Int. Sch, etc.)
    8. Away (Away team name)
    9. Division (UM - University Men, UW - University Women, SM - SESSA Men, SW - SESSA Women, VB, VG, JVB, MSB, U18B. U16B etc. etc.)
  9. On appointment of officials for any match, you will be able to see the officials appointed on the website, by accessing the Master Schedule on the HOME page of the website. Simply click the + sign next to the game details.
  10. Clubs, Universities, colleges or schools must advise The League (if requested) of the appropriate governing authority for any game in the event of a player being disqualified thereby requiring a disciplinary report to be issued to that governing authority.
  11. Any member of a Club, University, college or school team who threatens a match official, either physically or verbally, before, during or after a game, and is subsequently reported to The League will immediately have The Service withdrawn for the remainder of the season and will not be refunded the fee.
  12. FULL payment of The Service fees must be paid within 10 days of the Invoice Date. Failure to do so may result in The Service being suspended or withdrawn.
  13. The League will invoice the Club, University, college or school team for the entire season's estimated fixtures in respect of referees fees. The League will then reimburse the match officials their expenses directly.
  14. If, during the course of the season, it is apparent that the Club, University, college or school team will actually exceed the original number of estimated fixtures, the League will issue a supplementary invoice, which must be paid within 7 days.
  15. If, at the end of the season, it is apparent that the Club, University, College or School have not completed their pre-paid estimated fixtures, then a refund will be agreed with the Club, University, College or School and paid electronically.
  16. In the event that it is only possible to get ONE referee to a game, that referee will be paid additional expenses.
  17. In the event that it is not possible to get ANY officials, the Cub concerned will be notified by email or phone of the situation at least 24 hours in advance and may be asked to change the start time in order to assist the provision of officials. If this is not possible, a credit will be offered for the game.
  18. If visiting teams do not show up, the expenses will still be payable, as referees would have already taken time off work to officiate the games.
  19. Cancellations MUST be made at least 48 hours in advance.
  20. Under the terms of The Service, Clubs, Universities, Colleges or Schools who have signed up for The Service MUST not book any matches directly with match officials. Failure to honour this clause will result in The Service being suspended or withdrawn immediately.
  21. The League nor any of its officers shall be liable for injury, costs, claims, damages and the like, incurred as a result of any referee’s attendance at, decisions made by them or participation in any basketball event not arranged by The League.
  22. If you would like to participate in this service, please click on the Register Online button on the home page and select the Referees Appointments Service form.
